Mostly false. Gluten is just a protein in wheat, barley and rye. It has no special fat-storing power. Gluten-free flours like bajra and jowar carry almost the same calories as wheat atta. So swapping your rotis saves almost nothing. The weight people do lose on gluten-free usually comes from cutting processed snacks, like biscuits, naan and bakery bread. That is the snack going, not the gluten. For the 1-2% of people with celiac disease, gluten-free is a real medical need. But it is not a weight-loss diet.
