GLP-1 medicines and blood pressure: a small, honest benefit
GLP-1 medicines like semaglutide and liraglutide do lower blood pressure a little, but the effect is modest. Large reviews of many trials show these drugs bring systolic blood pressure (the top number) down by about 3 mmHg on average, not the big drop people sometimes imagine. Some of that fall comes from the weight you lose on the medicine, and some comes from the kidneys releasing more salt and water, a process called natriuresis. This guide gives the honest picture: a GLP-1 is a small helper for blood pressure, never a replacement for your blood pressure tablets. Your doctor decides your care, and you should never stop blood pressure medicine on your own.
